                          Academic honor societies

All students have the opportunity to excel academically. There are societies that correspond to the academic disciplines (Math, Science, Music, etc.) and, at the high school level, the National Honor Society is comprised of students who excel in most subject areas.  All the honor societies not only require academic achievement but also consistent service, leadership qualities, and integrity of character.

Entrance and continuance as a member in these societies is a privilege, not a right.  Students are selected by the Faculty based on several criteria.  While academic achievement (3.6 GPA for the National Honor Society or a 3.2 GPA  with an A- or above in the subject for most other societies) indicates that a student may be eligible to be invited to put her name in candidacy, further requirements include letters of recommendations from homeroom advisors and other teachers, as well as a commitment to service as a tutor, department volunteer, etc.  Induction takes place in the spring, at a ceremony which parents, guardians and families are invited to attend.
